Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 4:42 am PDT on July 23, 2008

... A period of hot weather is expected later in the week...

A strong upper level high pressure area over The Four Corners region
is forecast to expand westward to California later in the week.
Generally light winds... a high sun angle and a lack of marine
layer will lead to a period of hotter temperatures particularly on
Friday and Saturday. Away from the water and bays highs will
likely be in the 90s to 105 and some of the hottest Interior
Valley locations in San Benito and southern Monterey counties may
reach 110 degrees on Friday. Since this is a couple of days away
some uncertainty still exists regarding timing and intensity.
Future model data will help determine whether or not heat related
watches... warnings or other statements will need to be issued.

Heat stress can affect anyone. Never leave children or pets inside
closed vehicles. Additionally the elderly... people with medical
conditions and those engaged in strenuous outdoor work or activities
will be most impacted by the hot weather. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather
Radio for the latest on this situation. For more information on
beating the Summer heat please see http://www.Oes.CA.Gov/heatwave
